RE: HYB: No-take tags

When I first started daubing, abbreviating the parents on the tag seemed a
natural way to go, but some had the same initials, so Mulberry Echo became
MuEc and Mother Earth became MoEa. But after a couple of months in the sun
and rain, it was hard to tell MuEc from MoEa anyway. After that, I started
with numbered tags, reusable year after year. A couple of weeks after making
a cross, it's pretty obvious if there's going to be a pod. When it's obvious
there's no pod, the tag comes off as a no-take, and the parents get crossed
out in my book. If it was my only try at a cross I'm dying to get, I will try
again if I can. If I reuse the tag late in the season, I just write in the
date and new parents in my book. With numbered tags, it's easy to tell when
it's been about 2 weeks.

Saving pollen - If you're saving whole anthers, the whole thing needs to be
dry. It can still pick up moisture from the air. I've had good results
swabbing pollen off with Qtips, storing in a ziplock bag with a dessicant,
like you get with prescriptions sometimes. Never tried those press-n-seal
things. Can you reclose them?
