I am willing to discuss cooperation with anyone including plant steps, after all I am taking the time to have this discussion with you. I ahve invited everyone in this forum to go to the wiki and see it as it is being built. you do so by clicking on this link:http://wiki.irises.org/bin/view Several members of this forum have been already contributing mightily to wiki for at least a month and we now have 4,000 Irises with pages.I am amazed at how you have been telling my how the wiki does not do what you want when you have not even seen it. If your friend in plantsteps wishes to talk why has not he contacted me?

No I didn't say that and you haven't been willing to even discuss it with him.
Of course why shouldn't we (AIS) charge him for the use of the info? Did you
really think that I as a member of AIS would allow him free info?! I'm
talking about a cooperative effort. Think outside the box. For instance if
you had asked him you would find out that he probably uses the AHS regisration
CD's he has purchased from AHS and allows us (the purchasers of the program)
to access them in a downloadable form. You could allow his program to access
the wiki if we pay the fee. The AHS allows it why can't we offer that in
whatever form and restrictions we put on it.

AND BTW...so you are saying all of the Iris data is AIS's proprietary
information? How about the people who currently use the AIS registration info
in their printed catalogs and online webpages verbatim. Are you going to
charge them a fee? Some of them aren't even members of AIS!

XXXIt will be a complete encyclopedia on Iris their cultivation,
natural history, hybridizers, iris pedigrees. the list is endless. so what is
the rest that we will not be doing?. XXX

We can't see your wiki so we have no idea. You put this information on here
about the wiki and I'm asking lots and lots of questions. Plantstep is here
now and running. Are you suggesting Dave's Garden is worth the screen time? I
think we know Dave's Garden is about useless to us for really good, detailed
info. I have never found anything I wanted on there except for a few pics and
many times not even good ones.

XXX My goal is to make the Iris
>encyclopedia the premier source of Iris information on the internet. No one
is

well,

both.

I or the Plantstep author would have absolutely no problem with wiki being the
premier source. We would like the data to be downloadable in a form that could
be used in the Plantstep. And it is up to AIS what and how much data will be
allowed. If you wanted data from Plantstep to be uploadable back into wiki
that is your choice. But that helps you and the AIS, right? I haven't
suggested anything else but cooperation. People are going to buy his program
for their other plants and if they need to they can pay AIS through Plantstep
for the use of wiki.

XXXIt is true the wiki is only getting started but the Iris
society has been accumulating information for 80 years how long has
plantsteps
being creating information. What types of plants does plantsteps
register?.XXX

Plantstep doesn't register anything. It is a database and organizational
tool. What the program contains as far as actual info depends on what the
user downloads or enters themselves and it's for ALL plants. It is blank
until you enter the info and it's not an active website that everyone can
access. It is your own personal program, like Excel or PowerPoint.

So ultimately if I'm using the program for all of my plants why couldn't I be
allowed to download Iris info from wiki... the info? Plantstep allows info to
be downloaded into Excel. It's the same thing. I paid for Excel and
Plantstep and I use them together.

Robert, I'm thinking that you are pretty entrenched in your efforts and have
put a lot of work toward this and I understand that. Can you broaden your
horizon a bit further and consider the possibilities?
