I am just a small hybridizer but I have limited space so I can not give too much time to seedlings. Weak leave immediately, ugly poor form go at first bloom, what remains gets attention for another year for strength, bloom form, stalk strength. Right now I have very few tall bearded seedlings that I am playing with because of beards so they stay longer than the dwarfs which I have the most of. The specie seedlings also get more time because I do not know as much about them and I am sure I will make mistakes. No matter what the iris is, strength of plant is the first criteria. What a great question Betty!
