The reason I went to FB is because everybody seemed to have stopped discussions here.
Yes, you have to ask to join the various groups on Facebook, but unless someone is selling sunglasses or wants to post cat videos instead of whatever the group topic is supposed to be about, everyone is welcome. At least to the few groups I'm in.
One big advantage that FB has over this group is that we have a lot of active participation by non-English speakers, and while the optional automatic translation function can give some pretty bizarre renditions, it's usually enough to facilitate discussion.
We recently got to vote to try to help get one of our young overseas hybridizing members a horticultural scholarship. Edvinas. At least I'm pretty sure that's what I voted for - Latvian to English translation wasn't always decipherable. I think it was Latvian...
