Linda: The current R&I supposedly is added to the registry once the printed version has been released. John and I have talked about possibly including new registrations as they are occurring into the wiki with a disclaimer that the information is a draft copy and that it will be finalized with publication of the R&I.

 Presently we put up pages as the names are accepted because we have people putting up pictures of these new introductions. But they do not contain the official registration information until that is printed. Sometimes the pages contain what we call hybridizer comments; these may be taken from the new catalogs or directly from the hybridizer. Since the catalogs often come out much earlier then the R&I. some information is available very quickly. In this day of electronic communications people do not wish to wait for printed publications. Still the printed R&I is used as a tool to check what is in the encyclopedia when it finally comes out.

Once upon a time, there was some discussion (hope?) that the current R&I 
info would be added to the online registry (which is by 
subscription/membership in AIS), because the printed R&I could go to 
print on demand, thus not leaving AIS stuck with a bill for printed 
copies that couldn't be sold.

Whatever happened with that?

Having access to current pedigree information would increase my 
likelihood of buying newer introductions.  I get to "cheat" because I 
help proof read the new R&Is, get an electronic copy, so I can search 
for various cultivars in pedigrees, but it seems like a service that 
others would like.

Thinking of help to others - I'm covered.
