I agree, Colleen - the amount of light from these bulbs is much brighter than the old fluorescent ones. Supposedly, they also lose brightness over time, but hopefully not as fast as the f ones.
I won't buy new fixtures - prefer to re-wire these as the ballasts fail. Or when I run out of new fluorescent tubes ;-) Re-wiring turns out to be very easy to do, tho getting one of the fixtures apart was a challenge. Two more broken ones to re-wire, but I ran out of little wiring twisty thingies.
Are those 48" fixtures with two bulbs from Costco? If so, that's very reasonable.
This is what I bought - SGL 6-pack T8 LED Light Tube, 4ft 22W (48W Fluorescent equivalent) 2310 Lumens, 5000K Daylight, Single-Ended Power, by Shine Glory Lighting, ~$90, down from $240. I need to order some more & just found some single ended ones for ~$10 ea, wonder how low $ will go. ;-)

Check Costco. I have been very happy with mine. Comes with the lamp and bulbs for a bit over $30. Way more light than the regular fluorescents I had. Colleen
