Thanks for the link to the Rose Forum, Tom.One thing I learned in doing this is that T-8s fit in T-12 "tombstones" tho not the other way around.
No need to buy new fixtures, just take the old T-12 fluorescent fixtures apart (some easier than others, but there is always duct tape for the broken bits), cut out the ballast, cut the wires off the 'dead' end, and rewire the hot end. Then be sure to put the 'hot' end of the LED tube in the hot end of the fixture. The other end is just to hold it up.
It's interesting looking at the guts of these things - in half the fixtures, both incoming wires are black, no white wire.
I'm sure optimal growth comes with optimal wavelength distribution, but these are seedlings, not going to spend their lives under lights, & they seem to get enough of the right wavelengths as long as the light is bright enough. I hope that's a reasonable assumption!
