Thank you, Dennis! It is true however, that I have no great liking for
lavender iris. But as I looked at the picture in Schreiner's catalogue, I
thought: "I don't much like that iris" . On the other hand I greatly like
SILVERADO. I still recall the entry in the Blue Ridge Show by Al and his
wife, a few years back. It won Queen, and I thought when I saw it, "That
will win queen". I have not treated my clump well, but I did make some
crosses. Mike & Anne don't think SILVERADO grows well , and it has been only
fair here. It is Iceville down here too. I had two blooms on I stylosa;
they do not last well, but to bloom outdoors in January is some kind of a
feat, and I deeply appreciate it. I was talking last night to Joan Roberts,
and we discussed breeding yellow and pink amoenas.. Her seedling that won
in the Region 4 Show, a wide yellow amoena , just HAS to be a good breeder.
It has IMMORTALITY as one grandparent, which adds interest. I have two very
bright amoenas from JEAN MARIE X ALL LIT UP. The yellow one lasts well, and
has far the brightest falls of any I have seen. They are almost orange, while
the standards are quite white. The other is a nice pink amoena. I gave up on
breeding pink amoenas some twenty years or more ago, but think there is
enough material now to pursue the quest again. All best wishes to you and
Karen . Lloyd Z. Durham NC
