Bill, let us know for sure when your book gets published--it would be a
terrific itme for clubs to have available for new or prospective members if it
isn't too expensive. Barb in Santa Fe

World of Irises still remains the best all-round iris book for any purpose.
First runner-up is The Iris by Brian Mathew. Focus is mostly on
descriptions of species, though, with relatively little cultural
information, and that slanted to Britain.
In third place: Kohlein's book is a translation of a German volume. More
cultural information but also lots of descriptions of species (there are
some real howlers in the translation which I am surprised an editor didn't
catch). Some Northern European slant to the information; a couple of
chapters by Werckmeister are of interest only to advanced hybridizers.
There doesn't seem to be a book just for beginners, soooo....I've written
one. Just finished the last chapter this week. The tenative title is
Getting Started with Irises. No definite publisher yet, but Taunton Press
(publishers of Fine Gardening Magazine) has expressed an interest.
Best wishes, Bill
