fervently as the junk that comes through my letter box.
I'm pretty sure that Tom set up the listserver to reject postings from
non-list-subscribers, so I would be pretty sure that very few junk emails
would arise from subscribing to this (or most other) lists.
It's a different story with newsgroups. Anyone contemplating posting to a
newsgroup such as rec.gardens would be well advised to modify their software
to change the "From:" field to read something other than their real e-mail
address. There is software that can be used to trawl entire newsgroups for
e-mail addresses - both in the headers and in the body of the text. For
people who want to reply to me personally, I always include my e-mail
address in the body of the text, slightly modified but with guidance on how
to change it back to the real thing. This has been successful so far......
