Greetings, Julie
I've got some foetidissima seedlings going. I think the three month chill is
right, but the three week warm-up may not be enough. Three months cold, three
months warm, then back to the cold for however long it takes, which, in my
case was a couple of months. A friend here in Richmond planted his outside in
the Fall with fresh seeds and over wintered them, wrung his hands over them
all Summer, and then had them come up in the Fall just like mine. Of course
his seed was from the same plant mine was. I got a fairly high percent of
germination for my tablespoon or so of seeds, but as I read it, Deno got
about 50% in a very small sample. My seeds had been allowed to dry for a
couple of months on the stalk.
My seedlings are about an inch and a half high and were potted up in
December. They are in the so-called cold frame, which is no great shakes
protection, and they look fine so far.
Seeds rule.
