Re: Germination of Iris foetidissima

Iris foetidissima grows wild round here so there is plenty of seed - we just
let the fellas drop into the ground and grow!
I think fresh seed helps - when I've tried stored seed of "good" forms, I've
had much reduced success.
A moist and open soil with lots of humus seems best - plenty of garden
compost or leaf mould. The seeds usually drop (or a pulled off) around
January or February here, and the seedlings are ready for transplanting by
May.
Difficult to guage what % germinate since there is no control or protection
from birds/mice.

Definitely worth growing!
