Dana, I'm also doing the same sort of thing. Actually, I started the picture
file for the Santa Fe Iris Society as a help in identification for our shows,
but then we found it was even more useful for the rhizome sale later on. It's
true that the ones we have pictures for always sell out before any of the
others.
Barb in Santa Fe, where the Iris Society is bigger than the Rose Society (for
now).

I make up a picture album from photographs taken in my garden featuring
every iris I am donating to the Society for sale. That way as we try to
peddle the iris we can flip through this labeled, alphabatized album and
show pictures. If one sells out we can always look at the picture and
pick something close. It seems to have helped our sale and several of
the members are now doing the same thing.
