Well, yes, sort of. Bouncing the iris-l subscribers list against the
November 1996 AIS membership list, reveals 53% of the iris-l subscribers
are AIS members versus 47% non AIS. However, I must confess, I cheat just a
scoosh bit. Where there are dual AIS memberships I tend to count as two
even if only one member posts to iris-l.
If rigidly counted, it would probably be a wash. The AIS members tend to be
more likely to continue a subscription while non-AIS will join, stick
around for a while and then drop off the list.
We have a few using pseudonyms who are actually AIS members, however I have
not included these subscribers on the AIS side of the count. (Couples too,
drat it!)
Overseas members (How is that for a North American-centric view!) tend to
be either AIS members or members of their respective countries' iris
organizations.
Whatever, iris society or not, iris listers seem to be politer, smarter,
more tolerant, and certainly more eco-aware than is the average netizen.
Playing with stats in lieu of iris...
