While going over some old seedling notes, I found the entry "standards match the
blue sky", with an RHS Code of 92D.
O.K. So that must have been on a hazy day. At least it reminded me of the
recent discussion about what's blue, what's blue-violet, and what's
bluish-violet.
Today's sky is RHS 106C. No haze. Visibility over 50 miles. A few fluffy
clouds for contrast. What I normally think of as a "blue" sky. Which suggests
that perception of blue vs. violet may be somewhat influenced by conditioning.
Thirty years ago, when I moved to New Mexico, I thought the skies were often so
blue they looked artificial. Now, they just seem "sky blue". The environment
may have degraded a bit, but I really think the more likely explanation is that
my perceptions have changed...
