I just received my SLI (Society for Louisiana Irises) newsletter and my
complimentary Special Publication of the Society for Louisiana Irises
(1995) in the mail today. I've been a good boy and have all of my evening
chores done so that I can soak up these two publications tonight once my 4
year old is put on the shelf for a good night's sleep. I'm catching up on
e-mail while my wife reads Beatrice Potter bedtime stories to our little
girl. Once the coast is clear and little one is asleep, it's a big slice
of chocolate cake and the SLI newsletter and publication.
By the way, what season of the year is it? (rhetorical question) My irises
have to be confused with 70 degree temperatures in the heart of January!!!
I fear the worst this spring - a severe, late frost. Good thing I invested
in reblooming irises so if the spring disappoints, then there is still a
chance of bloom in the fall.
By the way, sky blue is represented well by the color of that crayon in the
Crayola box labeled "Sky Blue". Although I tend to associate the perfect
sky blue color with those kiddie swimming pool liners. :) There are many
degrees of blue, but I think that the siberian iris, CARMEN JEANNE,
pictured on Jim Wilson's web page is one of the most enchanting blues I've
ever seen in a flower.
I have to run and make labels for bearded iris rhizomes I received in the
mail today - yes, today! I placed a post on the Garden Exchange website
indicating my interest in older irises and I've had individuals sending me
their grandmother's irises, gratis. I'm in the wrong profession, I should
be in marketing or fund raising or something such as that. :) Imagine, I
could barely sell a single bar of candy or a single magazine subscription
in elementary school and now I get irises from strangers for free.
Gardeners restore my faith in mankind.
