In a message dated 98-01-02 11:37:48 EST, you write:
<< I'm under the impression that I. pallida has pale yellow blooms. >>
Nope, but I detect an undercurrent of confusion afoot somewhere in the land
since one of the "extras" I got from the HIPS Sale this year came in marked I.
Pallidia--spelled like that, this is not Anner's eyes again----- and also
marked "(yellow)". I asked Mike Lowe what he thought it might conceivably be,
but he had no clues, and, although I have not done any sustained detective
work on the question, the only thing suggestive I turned up just in the course
of other reading was something called SULPHUREA PALLIDA, which was a yellow
dwarf iris, something the rhizome I received could not be, given the foliage
length.
So there may be something circulating under a bogus or mangled name that is
yellow. It is definitely not I. pallida, variegated or otherwise.
