Mark,
If I were you and lived where you live, I would sure try some in the
ground. I soak that bed about twice a week or more with a soaker hose. It
will run anywhere from half a day to all day. I've been known (more than
once) to forget it and let it run all night as well, after which the bed is
standing in water. Hasn't ever hurt the I. unguicularis. It is awfully
tough to keep anything here in pots. When summer is in full blast and the
humidity is about 5 per cent, the pots need to be water two or three times
daily.
