Friends,
As I read the posts about hybridizing and those wonderful reprinted
articles by hybridizers I cannot help but be haunted by the thought that
with the incredible changes being made in genetic engineering it may not be
too long before everything we know or have come to believe, about species
propogation will soon be passe~. When I see what is happening in vegetable
gardening through gene splicing, etc., and read about the cloned sheep in
Scotland, I wonder how long it will be before someone in a lab will be able
to create irises using colors heretofore impossible? Or, cross
characteristics to iris from other plants? It raises a most interesting
prospect, with many ramifications. Just a thought.
Incidentally, I vote that we name our iris discards, "Rusty Johns."
