Bruce, as all listers know, I am NOT an expert but I do daub
pollen and have introduced a few irises, some of which have even won
awards!
That the first open flower is always sterile is a new one to me.
Most of my seed are set on terminal buds, and I can attest to the fact
that the terminal is not always sterile. What you read is an old wives
tale! As further verification, I have set seed on arilbreds that had only
one bloom.
You had another question sometime back, and I intended to resond
but didn't. Can you remember what it was and give me a second chance?
