I located them at first between some clumps of native bluestem grass. The
theory was that the grass would conceal the foliage after the weather got
really hot, as it always does here. Unfortunately, this resulted in a mess
after two years when the clumps of iris and grass intertwined. The grass
won. I removed them and they are now perched on the edge of a hill just as
it begins to slope steeply. They are planted between the outcropping
limestone with no competition. I hope they tolerate some dry soil. I
seldom have anything else, no matter how much water falls.
