Donald - in Dallas, so my experience should be similar to yours. I had
great success with spurias, bearded and louisianas. All the spurias I
planted - and I ordered all the ones I could find - grew like a weed. I
gave them away by the dozens to friends and neighbors, and I loved their
tall strong foliage, which looked a lot better longer than bearded iris
foliage. The only flaw, if you can blame them for it, was that their
bloom season was late enough to hit the hot part of the year, and the
individual blooms didn't last long as a result. I didn't find that any
special care was necessary - just a well-drained bed and a little late
afternoon shade. Beth
