Dear Members of the List,
At our society meeting on Sunday, a discussion about soils occurred. MANY
members have a problem after their iris have been in the same spot for more
than two years. Their soil types vary. Even if they dig them up, add
compost and other soil amendments, and use regular alfalfa feedings, the
soil never produces vigorous iris again. We hope that we will not soon
encounter this problem.
I know that there are those who grow commercially and use the same spots
over and over for years.
My question is, "Is the soil missing something that is depleted and has
not been replaced?" Or, "Is something built up within the soil (example
salt) that is preventing vigorous performance?" How can one know what the
problem might be?
