When naming irises, are previously used names of all types of irises =
taken into consideration or just the catagory (species) that the iris =
to be named falls into?

Christy:
There is one registrar for irises.... so all irises are taken into
consideration when registering a name. There cannot be, therefore (in theory)
an OVER IN GLORYLAND in Japanese Iris or bearded iris - since that name is
registered to a siberian iris.
But, yes it's true... that plant folk mine other plant registrations in an
effort to come up with a great name!
