RE: mulching


I used cedar bark the one time I mulched the beds.  The mulch was
brushed away from the rhizomes in the spring.  If I were to do so again,
I would probably used sand.  Check the AIS web page for the January 1998
article on the usage of soap for borer and sand for mulch and rot.

Iris reference books generally need to be special ordered.  It is
unlikely that you would find one browsing the book stores, although
Chapters generally has a few.  Timber Press publishes many good iris
books that can be ordered at discount prices from Amazon or Barnes and
Noble.  I would recommend that you begin with the World of Iris that is
sold through the AIS.
