I have seedlings germinating now, in mid winter, and we have had some beaut
frosts here, including this morning. This is my third batch of seedlings and
I no longer coddle them, I just leave them to the elements. I guess it comes
down to difference in climate, as our frosts are no lower than -5 celcius,
but these little guys (over 100 so far) are toughing it out. Some mornings
the soil in the pots is frozen solid. doesn't seem to do them any harm.
They would be justified in thinking it is spring, because we have had some
lovely weather - days when you can garden in a T-shirt, but the mornings
have been quite cold. Maybe that is what Spring is like in their native
climate?
Baby Blessed still hasn't opened, but has a good big yellow bud, and I HAVE
coddled it. It is growing in a pot, and I have been moving the pot each day
- full sun during the day, sheltered at night. I am determined to get full
value from these two stalks, as I don't expect to see much else for another
2 months.
Cheers, Jan Clark
