I'd say you did well . I also live in zone 5 and had a much less % of
first year bloom from the irises I ordered from zone 8 or 9 in
California , the good news that is all but 2 survived out of 40. The
irises I got from a zone 4 garden did much better for me and I got 95%
bloom and absolutely no rot.
This year I ordered for two different gardens , a zone 6 and a zone 9.
Naturally I'd be interested to see if the zone 6 order adapts easier to
this climate here in zone 5.
