RE: CULT: Rhizome size and leaving out

With all the talk about rhizome size and leaving out vs. planting right
away, I'm wondering if I did something right or wrong. A few days ago, I
received my iris order from Cooley's in Oregon. The rhizomes were small,
maybe an inch or so long with a few roots.
I set them out on paper towels in my dining room. I was afraid our
squirrels or deer would eat them if I put them on the picnic table. Well
after about two days when the weekend rolled around, the roots started
looking very dried out, so I planted them. They seems to be fine, but with
all this talk about leaving Oregon irises out a week or more I'm wondering
if I'll have a problem. Do you think I should dig them up again or leave
them?
In addition, yesterday, I received a great big rhizome from Vince Lewonski
(Thanks, Vince) of Edith Wolford that was almost three inches long that I
planted right away.

This is the start of my iris garden. I also have irises on order from
Maryott's and Aitken coming. I guess I'll leave them out for a few days when
they arrive if they look "pumped up."
