transporting Iris

Hi,
I am new to the list, but have had Iris for years. I am in Zone 8, and will
be moving in a month or so. Anyone have suggestions on how to transport a
large number of Iris? I have potted alot of them up, but have a 200 foot bed
that needs to be thinned, and I can't pot everything. I also have had trouble
with some of them rotting in their pots. I think I have that fixed, by adding
more sand to the mix, and planting very shallow.
Any ideas would be appreciated. I am thinking about moving them in just
layers of paper, but wonder how long they can stay out of the ground?
I also am looking for ideas on how to amend the beds? I am going to do raised
beds in Central TX for all the Iris- since the soil is 1' deep, then caliche.
Thanks to all for any advice. I love Iris, and enjoy trading plants.
Thanks,
Amy

BTW: Did you buy that new car yet?
If not, check this site out.
They're called CarsDirect.com and it's a pretty sweet way to buy a car.
