Amy,
One of the best soil amendments, whether for clay or sand, is horse feed
made from 100% alfalfa. Good organic material to break up clay or add
moisture retention to sand. Moderately slow release of nutrients, and an
enzyme that promotes growth.
Much more pleasant to work with than the stuff that has already gone
through a horse.
Note: some sources have a lot of weed seed.
