Hi Amy
In my experience irises remain fully viable for at least six months out of
the ground in a cool dry place. I've had some viable after almost 2 years.
However it's not recommended. Alternatively just pot up and don't allow to
become overwet. The last lot I potted were potted in solid clay over a hot
dry summer in 8" black bags and only watered 1-2 a week. All survived
