Re: CULT: survival of potted rz thru winter
Hi everybody,
I have just potted up 50 rhizomes and am waiting for another 40 which
will also be potted. I , like Janet , should be moving sooner than
later and sincerely hope that I can get these irises in to the ground
before the the zone 5 freezes hit us . I don't want to plant them here
because I fully expect to bring everything on the day we move out. I
don't want to have to return months later once the snow has melted and
make a mess of the gardens .
There's always a possibility that these irises won't get into the ground
which leaves me feeling rather nervous. Burying the pots or building a
cold frame and leaving them exposed to the elements is one option , the
other is to put them into the unheated shed in the back , but I'm unsure
about this option. Any cold climate people out there that offer any
suggestions ?
Ideally , I should have been smart and not ordered any irises this year
but I'm obviously not that patient when postponing plans for an entire
year. :-)
