Chris, I vote for burying the pots in the ground. I would try to fill in
well around the sides, leaving no "dead air" space. Once the ground freezes
I'd put a loose mulch cover on top (evergreen boughs or the like). I've seen
the results of TBs in pots simply left out on open racks over winter here,
and it was not pretty. About a 10% survival rate.
Hopefully you will get them moved in time and it will be a moot point!
