Re: OT:ALCOHOL AT CLUB FUNCTIONS
It would really depend on local usage and custom. Here in East Tennessee, where the average person would be deemed a religious fanatic anywhere else I have lived, it would be unthinkable. When I was president of the local ornithological society and we hosted the state meeting I
had a huge chore convincing our members that the site for our banquet needed to have an open bar, or nobody was going to drive the 250 miles from Nashville, much less the 500 miles from Memphis!
However, I would guess that clubs in the wine culture in enlightened areas of California, would not think twice about putting wine on the table with refreshments for a meeting. My rule of thumb would be if drinks would be expected to be offered to company visiting your home,
then it would be normal and natural for a club potluck. Margaritas in the summer? Sure, who's forcing anybody to drink them? The fundamentalists around here have their vision of heaven. Mine is to go to California, and be far from them.
