RE: Re: CULT: hardiness zones, US & OZ

Linda,

Never heard of that before, but a quick search brought up some references,
and I have an idea of what it is. Don't know if there is something
comparable out there for Oz. As I said, I sorta stumbled over the heat zone
map when I was doing a search on Crocosmia, one of which I had purchased
last week and have growing in a pot prior to planting in the garden. (It is
the Star of the East variety.) Unfortunately, I found a lot of conflicting
information--likes sun, plant in partial shade--doesn't like it wet, keep it
moist--sandy loam, any soil--that type of thing. Guess I'll just have to
throw it out there and see how it does--lovely flower, it is, after all, a
member of the family (Iridiceae).

You might want to explain Bailey and Cushwa's work for those who have
absolutely no idea what we are talking about.

Thanks Steve - really interesting. Now if they will just do a map of
Australian ecoregions comparable to Bailey's USDA map....

Linda Mann east Tennessee USA zone 7/8, OZ zone 1/2
