Here in Dallas there is a cement plant that makes concrete blocks also.
They
sell seconds at their plant for a very reasonable price. If there is such a
place near you, call and see what they have. I made a raised bed across the
back of our property between our back fence and the paved alley. When I
started there was very little soil there, just small pieces of shale. I
poured loads of grass and oak leaves there for a couple of years and then
started planting older irises that I just couldn't give up. Everything has
done very well, and now the little neighborhood
boys are used to my nametags and dont pull them up anymore.
