'Welch's Reward' was registered/introduced in 1988, so certainly is NOT the
variegata growing in Alberta for many years (provided "many" years means
more than 12). To the untutored eye, all these variegatas look somewhat
alike. Often only a side-by-side comparison can reveal the differences.
Maybe Mike Lowe can weigh in on this one with some help. Seems to me that
there is always the chance that an old, old naturalized iris like this is
not a named variety but a seedling that has adapted and spread. So it may
not have a name, aside from being a form of I. variegata.
