RE:Cult-Spurias

I have a few tricks I use with Spuria Iris to get good bloom in colder climates. I treat them like daffadils in many respects. That is plant them in September rather then June/July as in warmer climates. I plant them with about 3" of soil over the top of the rhizomes. They seem to do better that way. The plants always put up green growth after they are planted and the growth , if too much, will die off with winter. The later planted plants will survive better as the green growth is minimal and survive winter better. Mulching for first winter can help as they will establish the appropriate rythum for their climate. They aare excellent cut flowers. The flowers will develop after the stock is cut. They are in full bloom here right now.
