Donald, I think maybe I would suggest that you grow some weeds! I'm not
completely crazy! But my irisleaves look great - I look at them in wonder
they are so beautiful! That is,. after weeding and I can see them! Twice
this year they have been completely hidden from view -- literally -- Once
before bloomtime and then I enjoyed their bloom, but again weather, lack of
help, etc meant there was no weeding or working in the garden so Cleome,
that beautiful tall wild?flower came up and grew taller than the iris and is
blooming - until I can pull them out - after transplaning them to where they
will be "safe" (I'm sort of tied up in that sentence, but rather than
reconstruct it, I'll continue because a storm is brewing - there goes work on
weeds tomorrow, I'm afraid -- and I'll have to turn this monster off -- so
want to finish my "message") Anyhow, I have heard in the past that leafspot
comes from dirt splashing up on the leaves when it rains (guess it could
happen from watering) causes leaf spot and that weeds are a protection, altho
not a pleasant one!
I suppose the "germs" from leafspot are in the ground, and when splashed up,
causes a recurrence - otherwise I haven't "done" anything to prevent it.
I really like cleome - or windflower - - altho I know some gardners won't
allow it in their garden because it takes over. It can do that,. but I'd
rather pull that up than pursaline or dandelions! This has been another
very peculiar year for weather --oh-oh -- thunder, lightning -- goodbye!
