Hi everyone:
I need some feedback on borer control. And what do to at this late
stage of the game. This year, unlike last year, I have been overrun
with borers. Now I know what they look like, and what can be done
about them. But I think it is too late now to take the necessary
preventative measures.
Has anyone tried Cygon and beneficial nematodes? I guess you have to
use one of the other? Has anyone tried both methods, and come up with
a preferred method? I'd like to try the nematodes, cause I don't like
putting more poison in the earth than is absolutely necessary.
Also, when one finally catches one of the nasty little b...'s
dispenses with it; but its already bored a hole in the rhizome, now
all thats left is this bare rhizome 'cause all the leaves had to be
removed, can it be replanted, and will it come back? Or should one
just toss it, and buy new ones? Of course just buying new ones is
easier and you get a healthy rhizome; but I hate to give up on
something; I dug the affected rhizomes, gave them a bleach bath, and
am drying them for a day or two. Then I'll replant. Is what I am
doing totally futile??
Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.
Laetitia
