I cut back the foliage in October to about 2" and have had great 
success.  This year I only found 1 borer.  That's not bad considering 
I have approx 500 irises.

Scoop out any of the rotten parts then wash the rhizome in bleach. 
Let it air dry (in the sun) for a day or two, then you can replant 
it.  Your irises should recover & be blooming again the next year.
