Sharon McAllister, under 'Birds and Bees' posted on Aug 2, 1999, answered the question about one grain of pollen making one seed. It can be accessed through the Mallorn Archives.

She mentions pollinating all three stigmatic lips to get a full pod.  Rarely, do I ever daub pollen on all three and I get full pods.
