Companion Plants for Iris

Hi

I'm still trying to get the hang of this, so...

As to larger background plants, I have some expecially beautiful 
lilacs (over 5 ft)that flower when by tall bearded iris flower and it 
looks spectacular.

As well, my double prunus cherry tree flowers at the same time.  

Other plants that are not in flower but provide a green backdrop 
include: an old hybiscus (not Hawaiin type), Sansanqua camelias, 
Philadelphus, variagated and non-variagated eldeberry,plumbago,bottle 
brush plant (callistemon), oleander, and many others. 

In general, I have mixed colour roses at the back of my TB's, 
intermingled with shasta daisies and these have dianthus, etc at the 
base to keep the weeds down.  

I then have some other plants like hardy pelargoniums that flower the 
same time as the TB's in the gaps behind these.  Did try the single 
white daisy bushes, but these were too work intensive when the iris 
have priority.

The taller shrubs are to the back of these.

I am currently setting up the common "white rose" garden for a 
backdrop as well.

I am trying to colour co-ordinate the plants that flower at the same 
time and hope to add a bit of drama to my garden.  I will work on 
this more in the coming season.

Our climate here in South Australia, on the edge of the Barossa 
Valley at Adelaide is dreadful and I have to choose plants that do 
not require a lot of water, or can be mulched back away from the iris.

I am going to try some white petunias this year and see how they do.

My tulips flower approximately the same time as the very early TB's 
and I would like to incorporate these with TBs flowering at the same 
time and have large groups of both.  We'll see.
