Martin Weber asks about doubling chromosomes on *mellita/suaveolens*
via Colchicine.
Colchicine is not the only treatment possible for chromosome doubling.
Kevin Vaughn has published a protocol for the use of Oryzalin
(available as Surflan and other herbicides) with daylilies. The
method appears also to work with some irises at the same dilutions,
same method. I understand the compound is MUCH safer to work with
than colchicine.
I would certainly welcome any information about who might already be
doing this work with n=12 beardeds, or would be interested in doing
so. Tetraploid materials of some of the more recently circulated
bearded species and hybrids--such as of timofejewii--would be quite
useful, I believe.
