I do that too on a smaller scale. I have small planters that my husband made
of wood, and he put a small bag of peat moss in each and sliced off the top
and then I plant flowers in there.
I also used to put the water lilies etc. into buckets and put them in our
pond (at the edge), and then take them in before the pond froze over and
store them in our basement.
However, I also grew Japanese right in the mixed border with Siberians and
mums and roses whatever else I had.(or what mother gave me) when I lived
south of Baltimore.
