Neil,
It may be true that it is not economical to ship alfalfa in bulk form, such
as hay, over long distances. However, there is a lot of alfalfa grown in
the West that is being pelletized and shipped to the Far East, so I imagine
that the alfalfa pellets you buy locally could be grown just about anywhere
with the probability being quite high that it is not of local origin.
