I understand that salt is added to feedlot rations primarily because it is
a very effective means of regulating feed intake. Cattle will consume feed
until they have met their requirement for salt and then stop eating. If you
want to restrict intake, you raise the salt content of the feed; if you
want to encourage higher feed intake, you lower the salt concentration.
Either way the cattle consume the same amount of salt. Therefore, I do not
see that manure from cattle so fed would have a higher concentration of
salt than that from animals fed salt free choice.
