Re: [Cult] ? Iris help

I have to retract what I wrote yesterday about salt, feedlot cattle, and
steer manure. When Kitty Loberg questioned the accuracy of what I had said,
I checked some published references to see how they compared to what I had
written based on my recollections. It turns out that the practice of
controlling feed intake with salt is applied to range cows, not feedlot
steers. Furthermore, in some cases feedlot steers are deliberately fed
excess amounts of salt as a prophylactic against urinary calculi (kidney
stones), and it was mentioned that this practice does lead to higher
concentrations of salt in the manure that can have a deleterious effect on
plant growth if too much of the manure is applied to the soil.
