They do not aggressively attack the rhizomes, but the nibbling I mentioned
inside the outer fan leaves can promote rot, particularly in rot-sensitive
rhizomes. Larry Gaulter is a prime example. Dry climates such as mine in
southern California make the earwigs particularly likely to seek moist
shelter in the fan cavities, it is not that they are especially hungry for
iris.
