I agree with "Moose" <G> and I don not feel that folks have been
critical. I understand the desire to have all this information at hand.
For me it all started a couple of years ago when I started scanning the
R&Is for my own use and realized that many others wanted the same thing.
I hope I have not appeared negative to all the feedback and good ideas
that have been proffered. I don not intend to, but there are some
systemic problems I face it getting to where we all want to be. Where we
are is one thing, but most important to me is getting the registration
system to a point that does not require so much work on the part of my
volunteer army to reformat the data. Frankly, I think all the
registration process (or at least the data) should be online (with
appropriate checks and balances) but for the moment that would take an
additional person to mirror the work of the AIS registrar. We will
eventually "catch up" all the historical data (can you imagine the
amount of work converting the '49 and '39 Checklists is going to be???)
The information is so different and the formats difficult to intrepret.
Here is another project - Getting all the AIS bulletins on line
including GIFs of all the pictures, searchable text and downloadable
PDFs. All this to go along with the index that is being developed. Any takers?
As to how many woulld pay $25.00 for a CD? My guess is about 4 or 5. And
then their friends call up and "Hey, how about making me a copy of your
CD?" Just email it to me will you? And how long before it would appear
on someones website free for anyone to download. (Yes there is a bit of
cynicism there). Ever hear of Napster?? I just think we have to be
realistic about it all.
